TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – University of Memphis track and field, led by Zachary Wyatt and Samantha Lenton, had success this weekend in the Crimson Tide Invitational.
Wyatt took the top spot in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase (8:54.34) and placed fifth in a field of 39 for the men's 1500-meter run (3:47.71). Lenton placed first in the women's discus for the second consecutive meet with a throw of 55.10 meters.
"Zach put together two excellent races," head coach Kevin Robinson said. "He is really starting to put things together. A few of the other distance athletes had some PRs and stronger performances as well, so I'm happy to see them starting to develop."
Peter Kostarellis took second in the men's 5000-meter run with his 14:49.08 finish, and freshman Liam Walsh followed behind Wyatt in the steeplechase, taking fourth (9:28.07).
In more field events, Robin Nool matched a lifetime best (5.40m) in the men's pole vault from a short approach, which earned him second place, and Adam Neelly placed third in the men's discus (55.10m) and fourth in shot put (18.16m).
In second place, Amber Simpson led the Tigers to four top-10 spots in the women's hammer throw (62.03m), while Poorna Raorane took third for the women's shot put (15.67m).
Next up, the Tigers will travel to Auburn, Ala., to compete in the War Eagle Invitational at the Hutsell-Rosen Track this Friday and Saturday.
