Memphis men’s golf defeats Minnesota in Spartan Collegiate at Sea Island

ST. SIMON'S ISLAND, Ga. – A year later, Memphis men's golf returned to action to finish in a tie for 14th in the Spartan Intercollegiate at the Plantation Course at Sea Island Golf Club in St. Simons Island, Ga., Tuesday, defeating Minnesota of the Big Ten.
Tyran Snyders tied for 42nd with a 73-74-73—220 ahead of Guillaume Chevalier in a tie for 51st at 75-72-75—222, Borja Martin in 70th at 76-75-79—230, Esteban Vazquez in 71st at 81-73-77—231 and Alec Stopperich in a tie for 75th at 73-81-82—236.
The Tigers finished with a three-round total of 297-294-304—895.
Iowa won the title with a 13-under 851, a shot ahead of both Notre Dame and Georgia Southern. Kansas State finished fourth with an 859 followed by Northwestern, Michigan State and Ohio State in a three-way tie for fifth at 860.
Cincinnati finished eighth at 863 ahead of Indiana ((865), Rutgers (869), Iowa State (871), Eastern Michigan (880), Miami (Ohio) (894), Memphis (895), Bowling Green (895) and Minnesota (900).
Iowa's Mac McLear won medalist honors with a 10-under 206, three shots ahead of teammate Alex Schaake.
Memphis has a quick turnaround as the Tigers return to action at the Linger Longer Invitational in Eatonton, Ga., Friday through Sunday.
