Borja Martin’s 69 leads Memphis men’s golf in fifth after Longer Invitational first round

EATONTON, Ga. – A pair of Tigers fired under par rounds to lead Memphis men's golf to a 1-over 289, six shots off the lead in fifth, after the Longer Invitational first round at the Great Waters Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee Friday. Senior Bora Martin is tied for fourth individually after a 3-under 69 while freshman Tyran Sanders carded a 71.
Georgia Tech leads with a 5-under 283, three shots ahead of Charlotte. Florida Gulf Coast and High Point are tied for third at 1-under 287 followed by Memphis (289), Louisiana Tech (290), Virginia (291), North Alabama (294), Kennesaw State (295) and Middle Tennessee (296) to round out the top 10.
Mercer and Chattanooga are tied for 11th at 297 ahead of Troy (298), Georgia State (299), Toledo (300) and Augusta (308).
Martin, who is three shots off the individual lead held by Middle Tennessee's Connor McKay, had four birdies on Nos. 1, 8, 11 and 12 to go with an eagle at the par-5, 557-yard sixth hole. Sanders is tied for 14th, mixing four birdies with three bogeys. Guillaume Chevalier shot a 74 and is tied for 34th while Esteban Vazquez and Michell Bowlin are tied for 43rd with a pair of 75s.
Second round play continues Saturday with the final round on Sunday.
