Memphis men’s soccer falls at No. 8 SMU

DALLAS – No. 8 SMU scored four goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half to defeat Memphis men's soccer 5-0 at Crum Lacrosse Field in Dallas on Saturday.
After a scoreless first half, SMU opened the scoring in the first 92 seconds of the second half on a Thomas Haney goal on an assist from Noah Hilt. Hilt made it 2-0 Mustangs three minutes later. Gabriel Costa drilled a penalty kick in the 54thminute and then Papa N'doye made it 4-0 SMU in the 56th minute on an assist by Skage Simonsen and Knut Ahlander.
N'doye notched his second goal of the game on a penalty kick in the 67th minute to round out the scoring.
The Tigers were outshot 27-7 and had one shot on goal to the Mustangs' 10. Both teams had four corner kicks. Memphis goalkeeper and Dallas native, Parker Lackland, notched five saves.
In the first half, SMU outshot Memphis 16-4 with four shots on goal to none for the Tigers.
Memphis fell to 1-2 on the season with both losses to No. 8 SMU, which improved to 3-0.
The Tigers lost to SMU 2-0 on a pair of set-piece goals in the season opener for both teams on Feb. 6 at the Park Avenue Campus.
Memphis, which won at Temple 2-1 in double overtime on Tuesday, concludes its three-match road swing at UCF next Saturday at 5 p.m. CT before returning home to play USF on March 13.
