Dec 13, 2021 | Men's Basketball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tigers are prepped for a Tuesday night clash against No. 6/8 Alabama at FedExForum. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. on ESPN, and the Tigers will be looking to end a four-game losing streak.
Tuesday's game is a White Out with the Tigers wearing Memphis State uniforms, and the first 5,000 fans will receive a free white Memphis State t-shirt.
Memphis' last three defeats are by a combined nine points, coming on the road at Georgia and Ole Miss and against 8-1 Murray State.
Alabama enters the game following wins against No. 3 Gonzaga and No. 14 Houston to start the month of December. Alabama is led by the one-two punch of Jaden Shackelford and Jahvon Quinerly, who lead the team in scoring at 19.1 and 15.1 points per game, respectively. The Crimson Tide also boast a pair of dynamic freshmen in JD Davison and Charles Bediako.
The Crimson Tide rank seventh in the nation in scoring at 86.0 points per game and lead the SEC in 3-pointers made per game and rank second in rebounds per contest. Both the Tigers and Crimson Tide like to play at a fast pace, as Memphis is 11th in the nation in adjusted tempo and Alabama is 19th.
With a win, the Tigers would avoid their first five-game losing streak since Jan. 29-Feb. 16, 2000.
After Tuesday's game, the Tigers wrap up their stretch of four games against SEC opponents in five outings Saturday morning against Tennessee. Saturday's game will be played at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn., and tips off at 11 a.m. on ESPN2. Following Saturday's clash with the Volunteers, Memphis finishes non-conference play next Tuesday, Dec. 21 against Alabama State. American Athletic Conference action begins Dec. 29 at Tulane.
Tuesday's game is presented by Ashley HomeStore.
