MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The No. Tigers will hit the road one last time this regular season when they travel to Houston and East Carolina for big American Athletic Conference matchups.
Memphis (10-2-1, 4-1-0 AAC) is coming off their first AAC loss of the season to South Florida after Katie Kitching found the back of the net in the 105' from the top of the box and gave the Bulls the 1-0 win.
The Tigers did everything they could to tame the Bulls; Elizabeth Moberg had a season high seven saves while Tanya Boychuk and Saorla Miller combined for seven of the teams 15 shots during the match.
For the season, Boychuk leads the team with six goals and 13 points while Miller and Aubrey Mister have both recorded four goals. Ten other Tiger players have recorded goals this season while 12 have assisted on those goals.
Moberg has been the go-to for the Tigers in goal this season; she has tied the program record in career shutouts and is working her way towards the program record in career wins. She currently ranks as one of the top goalkeepers in the conference with a 0.781 save percentage and has the lowest goals against average in the AAC.
Houston (10-4-2, 2-2-1 AAC) is coming off their second straight loss in AAC play. The Cougars found themselves down early to Temple this past Sunday after Hailey Gutowski scored back-to-back goals for the Owls in the 25' and 61' of play. Houston's Madison Dichiara tried to help stage a comeback in the 86' when she netted her first goal of the season, but Temple's goalkeeper would fend off a shot in the last minutes of the match to take the 2-1 win.
For the season, Nadia Kamassah leads the Cougars with five goals while Zionah Browne has been an all-around threat with four goals and seven assists in the team's 15 games. Fifteen other Houston players have recorded goals this season as the team has outscored their opponents 31-14.
Mikaela Garcia has been the go-to for Houston in goal with 31 saves in 14 appearances and picking up nine of the team's 10 wins this season.
The Tigers have seen great success over Houston in the past; Memphis is currently on a nine-game win streak over the Cougars dating back to 2013. Last season when the two teams met, Claire Abrey netted the game-winning goal just 30 seconds into the match off an assist from Mya Jones.
East Carolina (7-7-2, 2-2-2 AAC), who will face-off with UCF on Thursday night, is coming off a 2-2 double-overtime tie with Tulsa that helped move them into third place in the American Athletic Conference. After falling behind twice, Haley McWhirter and Tori Riggs scored and assisted on each other's goals to get East Carolina back into the match.
For the season, McWhirter and Riggs lead the offensive charge while seven other ECU players have recorded goals. Maeve English has been main pick for the Pirates in goal this season; she has made 64 saves in 16 games while picking up four shutouts.
Last season when the Tigers and Pirates met, Clarissa Larisey scored the only goal of the match in the 13' of play off an assist from Caroline Duncan to collect the 1-0 win. Memphis' defense held East Carolina to just one shot the entire match, which came in the first four minutes of the game.
