Former Tiger Tim Harris to be Inducted into Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame

GREEN BAY, Wisc. – Former University of Memphis football standout Tim Harris will be inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame on Sept. 1, 2022, Packers Hall of Fame Inc. President Tim Konop announced on Tuesday. The banquet is scheduled to be held in the Lambeau Field Atrium.
Harris was a four-year letterwinner for the Tiger football team, earning All-Metro Conference honors for three straight seasons.
On completing his eligibility, Harris held records for tackles for loss in a game, season and a career and continues to rank among the top 10 in the Tiger record book in solo and assisted tackles, and quarterback sacks. His 49 career tackles for loss remains atop the record book, while his 201 career tackles are tied for seventh most in program history.
Harris came to the Tigers after graduating from Memphis Catholic High School after transferring from Woodlawn High in Birmingham, Ala. In his freshman season, he recorded 52 tackles, had four pass break-ups and one quarterback sack. In 1983, in his sophomore year, Harris recorded 89 tackles, recovered three fumbles, had seven pass break-ups, six quarterback sacks and 13 tackles for 78 yards lost. His play at outside linebacker earned his All-Metro conference honors, All-South Independent second team honors and Associated Press honorable mention All-American honors.
He didn't slow down in his junior season, finishing with 120 tackles, including four sacks and 17 tackles for 83 yards lost. He earned first team honors on both All-Metro and All-South Independent teams and was tabbed as a second team All-America from Football News. His 17 tackles for loss rank as the fifth-best single season mark in the Tiger annals.
In his final year in the Blue and Gray, Harris recorded 83 tackles, including 14 tackles for loss and five pass break-ups. He earned All-Metro Conference honors and a second Highland Hundred MVP award.
Harris was selected in the fourth round from Memphis in the 1986 NFL Draft by the Packers. He took over as a starter during his rookie season and immediately made an impact with eight sacks.
He played five seasons overall in Green Bay, appearing in 76 games with 70 starts, and finished with 55 sacks, a total that ranks fourth in team history. He also recovered six fumbles and recorded two safeties.
Harris enjoyed a banner year in 1989 by registering a Packers single-season record with 19½ sacks and earned Associated Press all-pro and Pro Bowl honors. He also earned all-pro accolades for his 1988 performance.
Harris was known for celebrating his sacks with a playful, "six-guns salute" gesture. Harris played 10 seasons overall, including stints with San Francisco and Philadelphia.
