Tigers Can’t Capitalize on Early One Set Lead

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Behind a 25-21 first set victory, the Memphis Tigers (8-11, 1-6) looked to win for the first time in their past five conference matches, but the Tulane Green Wave (12-7, 5-2), who entered Friday's matchup fourth in the conference, stormed back and took the next three sets for a 3-1 win. Tulane hit .236 in the match compared to Memphis' .110 and overcame a -10 differential in service errors to secure the victory.

Set 1
- The set saw a match-high 15 ties and four lead changes
- After Memphis opened the match on a 3-0 run, neither side led by more than two until Memphis retook the lead 19-17
- The Green Wave leveled the set 21-21 before the Tigers closed the set on a 4-0 run
- Alexis Lewis had five of her team-high 10 kills in the opening set as the Tigers hit .370 as a team
Set 2
- The Tigers were tied 15-15 and never led in the set before a 4-1 Tulane run put the Green Wave in front for good
- Memphis pulled within two points as they fought off set point, but a kill by Michelle Urquhart leveled the match
Set 3
- Memphis held two early one point leads before a 5-0 run from Tulane put the Green Wave in front 7-3, a lead they didn't relinquish
- The Green Wave built the lead to as many as 11 (23-12) before five straight Tigers' points tightened the set
- Kayla Dinkins set up set point with a kill for Tulane and finished the set for the Green Wave with a block
Set 4
- The Green Wave started the set on a 7-0 run and the Tigers never pulled closer than two
- Memphis went on a 6-1 run out of a timeout to cut the deficit to 8-6 before Tulane ran the lead up to 10 at 20-10
- The Tigers struck for four straight to pull within six (21-15), but Tulane closed the match on a 4-1 run
NOTABLES
- Freshman Alexis Lewis tallied 10 kills, her third straight match with double-digit kills
- With 11 digs, freshman Tabytha Toelke recorded double-digit digs for the fourth time in Memphis' last five matches
UP NEXT
- The Tigers will close out the brief road trip at Houston on ESPN+, Sunday at 1 p.m.
- Memphis following five matches will all be at home, as the Tigers won't hit the road again until Nov. 5 at Temple
