HILTON HEAD, S.C. – A selection of Memphis Tigers competed in the ITF 15k in Hilton Head, S.C., enjoying success before weather disrupted competition.
In singles, both Camila Romero and Aran Teixido Garcia won their opening matches before bowing out in the Round of 16. Romero defeated Emma Lella, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4, and Teixido-Garcia topped Brooke Wrigley, 6-3, 6-0.
In doubles, the Tiger team of Emily Meyer/Teixido Garcia advanced to the finals, with their path including a win over a former world top-60 player. Alisha Reayer/Romero made it to the semifinals, where inclement weather became a factor. With play delayed all weekend long, both Memphis doubles teams withdrew from the rest of the competition to make it to the start of the next tournament on time.

The Tigers now turn their attention to another ITF 15k in Norman, Okla., which begins Monday. Reayer, Teixido Garcia and Meyer are all in qualifying, while Romero will begin later in the Main Draw.

"It is great to get our players experience in these professional tournaments," Tigers associate head coach Ryan Haymond said. "A lot of our players have lofty individual goals, and Coach (Hayden) Perez and I are trying to consistently give them the best competition. I think everybody gained confidence this week by advancing in the tournament, and I am excited to see how that transfers to the next event in Norman."
