Memphis Selection Shows Progress at Samford Round Robin
Oct 22, 2021 | Women's Tennis
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Four Tigers competed in the Samford Round Robin in Birmingham, Ala., over the weekend, with the squad seeing consistent play in doubles competition.
Memphis' doubles team of Monique Woog/Meredith Jones went 2-1, as did the pair of Dolavee Tumthong/Miriam Grosmann.
Woog and Tumthong also went 2-1 in singles play, making them 4-2 in all competitions on the weekend.
The four Tigers teamed up with five players from Troy in team competition against Samford, UAB and Western Kentucky.
"We had the invitation and opportunity to take a few players and compete this weekend, and this is exactly what these guys needed," Tigers head coach Hayden Perez said. "Mo and Dolavee both had a strong showing in singles, and I was proud of their efforts.
"I have to remind myself that this is just Miriam's second college tournament ever, and she is growing a lot though these opportunities. Meredith is working through a few things on court, but this experience is so good for her right now and will prepare her for a great spring season."
