Tigers match preview vs. Louisiana Tech
Jan 28, 2021 | Women's Volleyball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis volleyball returns to the Larry O. Finch Center for a pair of matches against Louisiana Tech, Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 3 p.m. Both matches are available on ESPN+.
"With two matches wrapped up, it was great to see the Finch Center as our new home and get some competition under our belt," said head coach Sean Burdette. I'm thankful for all of the hard work from so many people from our administration to our health professionals, as well as from our athletes. Everyone has had to adapt to the unusual schedule under unusual schedule."
Friday night will be the first matchup between the Tigers and Bulldogs since Sep. 8, 2017. Memphis enters the weekend doubleheader off of a split vs. Southern Illinois, while the Bulldogs have lost each of their first five matches of the season. Louisiana Tech did pick up a victory in an exhibition match vs. Grambling State, while their first two official losses came back in the fall.
"Louisiana Tech comes in looking for their first win of the season, so we know that they're going to be eager to get out there and have some success," said Burdette. "We've been able to see some video of them already and they can attack us from a lot of different places on the court, so there's plenty that we need to be prepared for."
This weekend's matches will be the eighth and ninth meetings all-time between the two schools. Memphis holds a 4-3 edge over the Bulldogs and has won all three meetings at home (1991, 2006, & 2016). No one on the current Tigers roster appeared in the last meeting between the two programs. These are the final non-conference games for the Tigers.
"Normally we get four weekends of non-conference play and then a little bit of a break before we enter our conference schedule, but this season, we roll right from a short non-conference schedule right into AAC action," said Burdette. "Though it's a quick turnaround, we'll be able to take some more things from this weekend's pair of matches and build into conference play."
