Tigers travel to Starkville to face Mississippi State

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis women's tennis resumes action as the Tigers head to Starkville, Miss. to face Mississippi State. Match time at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre is set for 4 p.m. Friday.
The two teams last competed earlier this season in the Bulldog Kickoff hosted by Mississippi State Jan. 16-17. While Mississippi State swept Memphis in singles and doubles, the Tigers had a great showing on the singles courts.
Sophomore Aran Teixido Garcia claimed her first set against Magda Adaloglou but dropped the second. The match would end with Adaloglou holding on for a 6-2 final in the third set tiebreaker. Similarly, Camila Soares claimed her first set against Alexandra Mikhailuk, but dropped the final two.
On Sunday, the Tigers fell 6-1 to No. 15 Vanderbilt in Nashville. Katherine Cao and Aran Teixido Garcia defeated Vanderbilt duo Christina Rosca and Emma Kurtz with 7-6, 7-4 sets, but Vanderbilt ultimately took the doubles point after claiming courts two and three.
In singles, freshman Sophie Abrams lost the first set 2-6 against Emma Kurtz. She came back to win 6-3 in the second set and 6-0 in the tiebreaker. Vanderbilt claimed the other five courts.
Mississippi State recently captured its first road victory in a 6-1 decision at Furman to improve to 2-0 on the season. The Bulldogs claimed two of the three doubles courts and five of the six singles.
