The season begins Saturday against Arkansas State
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The reigning American Athletic Conference champion Memphis Tigers have been picked to finish third in the 2020 AAC Preseason Media Poll, the league announced Tuesday morning.
UCF earned 10 first-place votes and finished with 204 total points to claim the top spot in the poll. 2019 East Division Champion Cincinnati were picked to finish second with seven first-place votes and 201 points. Memphis collected two first-place votes and 192 points to comfortably sit in the top three.
The Tigers are coming off of their most historic season in program history. Memphis finished the 2019 campaign with a 12-2 overall record and won its first outright conference championship in 50 years with a 29-24 victory against Cincinnati on Dec. 7. The Tigers went on to make their first appearance at the Goodyear Cotton Bowl on Dec. 28.
Memphis has won the AAC West Division for three-straight seasons. The 2020 campaign marks the first season the league will not be divided into divisions as the departure of UConn dropped the participating total to 11 teams. Memphis remains the highest traditional West Division team for the fourth-straight season.
The Tigers are set to take on Arkansas State in the season-opener this Saturday at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. Kickoff against the Red Wolves is scheduled for 7 p.m. For more game day information, go online to www.gotigersgo.com/2020football.
