Brady White named to Wuerffel Trophy Watch List
Jul 23, 2020 | Football
MEMPHIS – Quarterback Brady White has found his name on another preseason watch list, this time earning a spot on the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List released Thursday. White is also a member of the Davey O'Brien watch list that was announced last week.
The only returning 4,000-yard passer from 2019 in the FBS, White earned a spot on the Wuerffel Trophy list thanks to his additional work in the Memphis community. The Wuerffel Trophy honors college football's top community servant.
In the fall of 2019, while helping Memphis to a 12-2 record, an American Athletic Conference championship and a Goodyear Cotton Bowl appearance, White also managed to complete 35 hours of community service during the season, including visits to LeBonheur Children's and St. Jude Children's hospitals. His work with children in the Memphis community included work with the Jessie Reed Foundation, helping distribute Joy Jars, and with Gardenview Elementary School as part of the Tiger Blue Holiday in December. He also served his fellow Tiger student-athletes on a panel for freshmen student-athletes as part of the department's ACAD class.
On the field, White passed for 4,014 yards, becoming just the second Memphis quarterback in history to reach the 4,000-yard passing mark. Both of White's seasons at Memphis rank in the single-season top 10 (5th with 3,296 yards in 2018). His 33 touchdowns passes in 2019 rank second in the record book.
Heading into his third season in the Memphis program, he enters 2020 fourth in the Memphis record book with 7,310 career yards and his 59 career touchdown passes ties for third in program history (Paxton Lynch, 2013-15).
White graduated from the University of Memphis with a master's degree in sports commerce in August of 2019. He is currently enrolled in a doctorate program at the UofM.
White is one of six Tigers named to a preseason watch list so far. White (Davey O'Brien), Kenneth Gainwell (Doak Walker), Damonte Coxie (Biletnikoff), TJ Carter (Jim Thorpe), Dylan Parham (Outland Trophy) and Riley Patterson (Lou Groza) have also represented Memphis on a watch list in the preseason.
Memphis is scheduled to open the 2020 season against Arkansas State on September 5.
