AAC announces women's basketball home and away opponents
Jun 10, 2020 | Women's Basketball
The refreshed model remains at 16 league games
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The American Athletic Conference announced Wednesday afternoon the home and away women's basketball conference opponents for the 2020-21 season.
Due to the league dropping from 12 to 11 teams with the departure of UConn, the conference has presented a refreshed matrix with efforts made to ensure teams do not go on the road to a one play opponent if they did so last season.
The schedule remains at 16 games for the fifth consecutive season. Each team will play six of its 10 opponents twice and four opponents once each – two at home and two away.
Memphis will welcome ECU and SMU in home-only contests while taking on UCF and USF on the road only. Cincinnati, Houston, Temple, Tulane, Tulsa and Wichita State are the scheduled home and away opponents for Memphis.
The Tigers return over 87 percent of their scoring from last season. Guard Gazmyne Herndon was the lone senior on last year's squad and averaged 8.4 points per game.
In addition to the return of Jamirah Shutes (15.2 ppg), Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu (12.2 ppg/8.6 rpg) and Madison Griggs (10.6 ppg), Memphis welcomes four newcomers to the 2020-21 team. The Tigers signed incoming freshmen Coriah Beck, Endya Buford and Callie Wright during the early signing period and added junior college transfer Jatyjia 'Tye' Jones in April.
Prior to the addition of Jones, the 2020 class is ranked 31st-nationally per the All-Star Girls Report and first in the American Athletic Conference. The Tigers have had back-to-back top 35 recruiting classes with the addition of the 2020 class.
The complete 2020-21 women's basketball with dates and times will be announced at a later date. To reserve your season tickets for the upcoming year, call the Memphis ticket office at 901-678-2331.
