Trela named CoSIDA Academic All-District

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis baseball senior third baseman Alec Trela was named to the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team on Thursday afternoon, as voted by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America.
Trela holds a 3.97 GPA as a biomedical engineering major. The Bloomington, Ill., native claimed Academic All-District and Academic All-America honors after the 2019 season. Trela, a UofM Dean's List member, has also been named to The American's All-Academic team in his previous three years at Memphis.
On the diamond, Trela was named to the 2020 Preseason All-Conference Team. He started all 17 games for the Tigers in the shortened season, while having also started all 186 games in the last four years.
In 2020, Trela led the Tigers with five doubles and 12 walks drawn. He also ranked fourth on the squad with eight runs batted in. Last year, Trela ranked second in home runs (6) and doubles (15) and third in RBI (32).
All-District honorees will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. The organization's Academic All-American winners will be announced June 8-11.
