Mar 09, 2020 | Women's Tennis
FULLERTON, Calif. – The UofM women's tennis team took a swift 4-0 win over Cal State Fullerton Monday afternoon, starting the week off in the right direction.
Memphis improves to 8-4 on the season, with a four-match win streak in hand. The Tigers have seven wins in their last eight matches.
Doubles play went in favor of the Tigers, as the pair of Katherine Cao and Monique Woog struck a 6-2 win on Court 2, while Claire Sullivan and Josephine Cao captured a 6-3 win on Court 3 to put Memphis on the board.
Singles largely followed the same path as doubles. Monique Woog claimed the first point after her opponent retired from the match after a 6-1 first set. From there, Laura Bente and Lina Hohnhold made quick work of their courts, taking matches in straight sets to cap the win.
Hohnhold has now won eight singles matches in a row, six of them coming from the Court 5 position. She is 10-2 in her spring singles matches.
The Tigers have two more matches of a West Coast swing, playing Long Beach State tomorrow before battling UNLV on Friday. Match time against the Beach is set for 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
