Tigers forward honored for the 11th time this season

PROVIDENCE, R. I. – University of Memphis freshman forward Precious Achiuwa was named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week Monday for his performances in games against Wichita State Thursday and Houston Sunday.

For the two games, Achiuwa averaged 19.5 points and 15.5 rebounds.

Achiuwa was honored by the league for the 11^th time this season. He earned Player of the Week Nov. 25 and is a six-time winner of Freshman of the Week and a four-time recipient of the weekly Honor Roll.

In Sunday's 64-57 loss at Houston, Achiuwa matched his season-high with 25 points. His 15 rebounds gave him his 18^th double-double of the season. He is tied for seventh in school history for most double-doubles in a single season.

In Thursday's 68-60 victory over Wichita State in the UofM's regular-season home finale, Achiuwa scored 14 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. He also had three blocked shots.

The only freshman in the nation averaging a double-double, Achiuwa has started each of the team's 31 games and leads the Tigers in scoring (15.8) and rebounding (10.8). In addition, he leads the conference in rebounding.
