Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu posts 15th double-double in loss
UNCASVILLE, Conn. – After pulling off the upset in the first round, the Memphis women's basketball team wasn't able to find the same shooting rhythm in its quarterfinal matchup against Cincinnati, as the Tigers fell on Saturday night.
Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu recorded her 15th double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Senior Gazmyne Herndon turned in 10 points in her final game at Memphis.
Memphis found itself behind early, and struggled to find a rhythm in the first half. Despite drawing fouls and forcing turnovers by Cincinnati, the Tigers couldn't capitalize offensively. Conversely, the Bearcats were able to find their footing throughout the first half, taking a 51-19 lead into the halfway break.
The Tigers came out of halftime aggressively, making an effort to get into the teeth of the Cincinnati defense and drawing fouls. Memphis used the free throws to its advantage, hitting all 10 of its attempts in the third. Despite the added offense, the Tigers couldn't make any headway into the lead.
Late in the fourth, Fankam Mendjiadeu snared her 10th rebound, giving the forward her 15th double-double. The statline moves her into sole possession of 11th all-time in double-doubles at Memphis.
The Tigers reached the quarterfinal round for the second-consecutive season, reaching the same level last season.
