MIAMI, Fla. – Facing a weekend of downpouring rain, the Memphis women's tennis team stayed the course despite the conditions, picking up a win over Florida International Sunday afternoon.

"Great match from the girls, a team effort for sure," head coach Hayden Perez said of the win. "There was a lot of waiting around this trip with multiple rain delays, and that can wear on you. The girls really handled it well."

The Tigers started the match with strong finishes on doubles, with the pairings of Katherine Cao and Alisha Reayer on Court 2 and Josephine Cao and Monique Woog on Court 3 coasting to 6-2 sets.

Singles play went back and forth, with teams alternating wins on all courts. Laura Bente, Aran Teixido Garcia and Lina Hohnhold picked up straight-set wins for Memphis to claim the 4-3 match win. Bente claimed 6-2, 7-5 sets, Teixido Garcia won 7-5, 6-4 and Hohnhold defeated her opponent with 6-3, 6-3 sets.

Memphis will trade the south for the north for its next pair of matches, heading to Minneapolis, Minn., for matches against Minnesota and Mizzou next weekend.
