Rifle Falls At Ole Miss

OXFORD, Miss. – University of Memphis' Taylor Gibson shot a 1170 aggregate to lead the Tigers rifle team, but it wasn't enough in a 4672-4665 Great America Rifle Conference setback to Mid-South rival Ole Miss.

The Rebels edged Memphis in both disciplines, winning smallbore 2316-2315 and air rifle 2356-2350.

Gibson, a freshman, posted a 1170 or higher aggregate for the third time in the last five matches. Her 1170 aggregate was second among all shooters Saturday. She placed second in smallbore (582) and third in air rifle (588).

The Tigers travel to Murray, Ky., for a second time this season next weekend when they shoot in the NCAA Sectional Qualifier at Murray State's Pat Spurgin Rifle Range. Memphis' aggregate at the NCAA event counts for half of its qualifying score for the 2020 NCAA Championships.

In the final regular-season match of his career, Levi Clark shot a 1166 aggregate, which was his best score of the new year (2020). Clark's 578 smallbore result was his second-highest mark of the 2020 portion of the schedule, and he shot a 588 in air rifle for a second-straight match.
David Crenshaw shot a 1165 or higher aggregate for a third-straight match (1166). It was the sixth time this season he posted a 1165 or higher aggregate.
Matt Dorey shot a 1160 or higher aggregate for a fourth-consecutive match with his 1163 versus Ole Miss. He has posted air rifle scores of 585 or higher three times in the last four matches.
