Cross Country Earns USTFCCCA Academic Honors

Men's, women's teams receive accolades for a second-straight year.
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The University of Memphis men's and women's cross country squads were named among the U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I All-Academic Teams for the 2019 season. The Tigers women's team posted a 3.70 grade-point average (GPA), and the men's squad a 3.44 GPA.
This is the second-straight year Memphis' men's and women's teams were named among the USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams in the same season. The women's squad has earned the honor eight of the last nine seasons (2011-16, 2018-19), and the men's team seven of the last nine (2011-15, 2018-19).

The Tigers women's squad's 3.70 GPA was tied for 14th-highest in the nation. It is the second-straight season the women's GPA ranked in the top-15 nationally. Last year, the Memphis women's team's GPA was 11th. The men's 3.44 GPA was 42ndnationally. Both teams ranked among the nation's top-25 percent in GPA on their respective lists (men's team: top 22 percent; women's team: top 6 percent).
The Tigers were one of five American Athletic Conference programs to have their men's and women's teams receive the honor. Joining Memphis from the league on both lists were Cincinnati, Temple, Tulsa, and Wichita State.
The Tigers women's squad was second to Temple for the highest GPA in The American with a 3.70 (Temple, 3.76). The Memphis men's team's 3.44 GPA was third in the conference to Cincinnati (3.83) and Temple (3.56).

The Memphis women had the highest GPA among state of Tennessee NCAA Division I public institutions and the second-highest GPA among all NCAA Division I schools in the state (Belmont, 3.75). The men's squad had the second-highest GPA among public institutions in the state (Chattanooga, 3.46) and the fifth-highest GPA among men's programs at state NCAA Division I schools.
A total of 428 college cross country teams (191 men, 237 women) posted a team GPA of 3.0 or higher to earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors for 2019.
