MEMPHIS – Head football coach Ryan Silverfield announced Tuesday that Noah Franklin has been promoted to the Director of Athletic Performance position at the University of Memphis. Franklin has been a member of the Tigers' strength and conditioning program for a combined seven seasons.
"Noah Franklin is and has been an amazing asset to the Memphis football program for many years. His promotion to lead the Sports Performance department was an easy decision," Silverfield said. "He has proven to have a wonderful track record developing our players and has great relationships with each of them. He played and coached in the NFL as well. Most importantly, Noah and his wife Taylor love Memphis and are excited to continue making this program even better. He has already started assembling a strength staff that will be one of the very best in the country. "
Franklin came to Memphis in January of 2012, serving as a graduate assistant coach with the offensive linemen during spring camp. He moved into athletic performance following that camp and was named the assistant strength and conditioning coach for the 2012-13 academic year. The following year he was promoted to associate director.
Following the 2013 season, Franklin left to work in the NFL with the Oakland Raiders. Joining the Raiders' staff in February of 2014, he advised in the design and creation of player workouts and programming. He also led the development and implementation of practice squad workouts while with the Raiders.
Franklin then spent a short tenure in Houston with CES Performance, where he was the manager of training systems. Among his duties there was leading strength training for the Houston Dash of the National Women's Soccer League.
He returned to Memphis in July of 2015 and has been a member of the Tigers' athletic performance staff for each of the past five seasons.
A former student-athlete at Oklahoma State, Franklin earned his bachelor's degree in health promotion in December of 2010. Following his collegiate career, he had stints with the Carolina Panthers and the Detroit Lions before becoming a graduate assistant coach at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
He holds certifications from the CSCCa and the American Red Cross.
He and his wife, Taylor, live in East Memphis.
