Rifle Places Second At Withrow Invitational

Tigers post second-highest team aggregate score of the season.
MURRAY, Ky. – Whatever it is about the University of Memphis rifle and competing on the road, it needs to be bottled and brought back home to the Bluff City.
The Tigers used solid performances from freshman Taylor Gibson and sophomore Arielle Kimm to lead the squad to a second-place finish at annual Withrow Invitational at Murray State. The last time Memphis had a first- or second-place finish at the Withrow Invitational was in January 2005 (2004-05 season).
Memphis shot an aggregate of 4677 (2319 smallbore/2358 air rifle) for its second-highest mark of the season. The Tigers shot an aggregate of 4679 in their last match before the semester break at Jacksonville State's Gamecock Invitational Nov. 17. Memphis' 2358 air rifle score was the team's highest of the season.
The Tigers, ranked No. 9 in the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) poll, was second only to No. 3 Kentucky at the Withrow Invitational. Memphis finished ahead of No. 10 Murray State, No. 14 NC State, No. 16 Jacksonville State, No. 17 UT Martin and No. 18 North Georgia.
For the fourth-consecutive match, four or more Tigers posted aggregates of 1160 or higher. Gibson and Kimm led the way, with both recording 1171 aggregates.

- For a second-straight outing, Taylor Gibson shot an aggregate of 1170 or higher. She shot a career-high 1177 aggregate at Jacksonville State's Gamecock Invitational in November.
- Matt Dorey shot a 1160 aggregate or higher for the sixth time this season.
- Matt Dorey tied his career-high score in air rifle with a 589. He also shot a 589 in the discipline versus NC State his freshman season (2017-18).
