Vlasveld leads Tigers by firing a career-low tying 5-under 67
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Rodi Vlasveld shot 5-under 67 to lead the University of Memphis to a fifth-place finish in the Graeme McDowell Invitational Tuesday at the Greystone Golf & Country Club. Vlasveld's 67 tied his career-low round.
The Tigers, playing in their season-opening event, finished at 3-over 867, 17 strokes behind champion North Florida. Host UAB shot 13-under 851 to place second, one stroke behind North Florida, while Arkansas State (854) and South Carolina (865) finished ahead of Memphis.
Playing on the Greystone Founders Course, the Tigers couldn't match a strong second-round in which they shot 12-under 276 to tie North Florida for the lowest round of the event. During the second round, Vlasveld, Isaiah Jackson, Guillaume Chevalier and Borja Martin shot 2-under par or better.
In Tuesday's third round, the Tigers shot 4-over 292.
Individually, Vlasveld finished in seventh place, while Jackson notched a top 25 finish by shooting 74 for a 216 total. Chevalier shot 75 for 218, Martin 77 for 224 and William Harwood 76 for 224.
Memphis plays next at the David Toms Intercollegiate Oct. 5 and 6 at Southern Trace Country Club in Shreveport, La.
