Mallin, Jones named AAC Players of the Week

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Two Memphis women's soccer student-athletes earned superlatives on the American Athletic Conference's Players of the Week list, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Senior defender Stasia Mallin was named the AAC Defensive Player of the Week, while freshman midfielder Mya Jones earned Rookie of the Week honors.
Mallin began the week tying a single-game program record with four assists against Southeastern Louisiana, aiding in the Tigers' 6-0 win. The senior also scored the game-winning goal off of a direct corner kick at Central Arkansas on Sunday.
Defensively, the Carmel, Ind., native also helped Memphis in collecting its fifth and sixth shutouts of the season. Mallin's Defensive Player of the Week nod is her second of the season and fourth of her career.
Jones tallied two assists and recorded her first collegiate career goal throughout the week. The Calgary, Alberta native assisted on the game-winning goal against Southeastern Louisiana, and then added her first score to help Memphis to a 6-0 win.
On Sunday, Jones assisted on the Tigers' second goal at UCA, sealing a 2-0 road win against the Bears. Jones's accolade marks the second Rookie of the Week honor of her career after she previously earned the league's Rookie of the Week on Aug. 26.
Memphis returns to the pitch on Friday on the UofM's Park Avenue Campus when the Tigers host Iowa State. Kickoff against the Cyclones is slated for 7 p.m.
