IRVING, Texas – University of Memphis women's soccer players Maira Boosman and Mihiro Furuya collected American Conference weekly honors on Monday, with Boosman being named both Defensive Player and Freshman of the Week and Furuya earning an honorable mention.
Boosman played a pivotal role in the Tigers' defensive effort during Thursday's 2-0 shutout victory at Temple, helping Memphis remain unbeaten in American Conference play.
The freshman defender played the full 90 minutes against the Owls, anchoring a backline that limited Temple to just one shot and no shots on goal. The dominant defensive performance helped the Tigers secure their fourth shutout in six conference matches and extend their unbeaten streak in conference play.
Boosman has been a consistent presence in the Memphis lineup throughout her debut collegiate season, appearing in all 13 matches while making 11 starts. She has totaled 920 minutes on the pitch, establishing herself as a key contributor to the Tigers' defense.
Furuya earned an honorable mention after providing the game-winning goal in Thursday's victory over Temple.
The midfielder broke the deadlock in the 24th minute, curling a beautifully placed shot from outside the box past the Temple goalkeeper to give Memphis a 1-0 advantage. The goal marked Furuya's second of the season and fourth of her collegiate career.
