DENTON, Texas – The Memphis women's soccer team extended its American Conference unbeaten streak to 37 consecutive matches Sunday afternoon, battling North Texas to a 1-1 draw at John Hedlund Field at Norma Knobel Hunt Stadium.
The Tigers (9-3-3, 6-0-2 American) remain the only unbeaten team in conference play after earning a point on the road. Sophomore Ellis Kelly netted her fourth goal of the season in the second half, while goalkeeper Ava Galani tied her career high with five saves to help Memphis secure the draw.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first half that saw limited opportunities for either side, Memphis broke the deadlock in the 64th minute. Sophomore Taliah Brooks carried the ball down the wing before whipping a cross into the box, where Ellis Kelly rose to head home her fourth goal of the season and ninth of her career.
- North Texas responded less than two minutes later in the 65th minute when Georgia Guenther capitalized on a loose ball following a corner kick, finding the back of the net to level the match at 1-1.
- Both sides continued to create chances in search of a winner, with Memphis nearly reclaiming the lead in the closing minutes. Junior Ai Kitagawa stepped up for a dangerous free kick from just outside the box, but North Texas goalkeeper Sarah Margaret Seabrook made the save to keep the score level.
