Men's tennis earns doubles title to start fall campaign

RESULTS
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – In its first weekend of fall action, Memphis men's tennis provided a strong showing at the Chattanooga Collegiate Clay Court Championships, yielding a doubles title in the tournament.
Duo Jan Pallares and Patrick Sydow collected the weekend's doubles crown, behind three consecutive wins following a first-round bye. The two began play with a 6-2 win against UAB's Nikola Puric and Daniel Janko. After a 6-2 win against Troy's Oskar Michalek and Javier Llinares, Pallares and Sydow capped their title run with a 6-4 win against Tomas Rodriguez and Niklas Gerdes from host Chattanooga.
Tandem Jeremy Taylor and Marshall Sullivan claimed a win against Troy's Charles Anton and Christopher Tasker in the doubles bracket before falling in the semifinal round.
After a first-round bye in singles play, Taylor tallied a pair of wins against Tasker and Rodriguez on his way to the semifinal round of the main draw before dropping a hard-fought three-set bout. Pallares and Sydow advanced to the tournament's quarterfinal round before claiming wins in the consolation bracket to end the weekend.
After a weekend away from competition, the Tigers will travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn., for the MTSU Invite Sept. 27-29.
