Memphis travels to Kansas for Top 25 showdown

MEMPHIS, Tenn. –No. 20/18 Memphis women's soccer will open a two-match road swing against the No. 18 Kansas Jayhawks on Thursday night in a Top 25 showdown.

Five Things To Know About Memphis
- The Tigers checked in at No. 20 in this week's United Soccer Coaches Poll and No. 18 in the TopDrawerSoccer poll. With Kansas ranking No. 18 in the United Soccer Coaches poll, Thursday's matchup will mark the third time in the last five matches the Tigers will play in a Top 25 contest.
- Junior Clarissa Larisey and freshman Mya Jones were tabbed the AAC Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively. Larisey logged four goals last week, including hat trick against Little Rock to open the season. Jones notched a pair of assists in her collegiate debut against Little Rock.
- Thursday's match is Memphis' first road contest of the season. The Tigers found success away from home last year, going 9-0 in true road games and 3-0 in neutral site contests.
- The Tigers had three student-athletes listed to the American Athletic Conference Preseason Team. Senior Serena Dolan and juniors Clarissa Larisey and Elizabeth Moberg were tabbed to the preseason team earlier this month.
- Memphis is meeting Kansas for the first time on the pitch. In addition to the Jayhawks, the Tigers will also play North Texas (Sept. 6) and Iowa State (Sept. 20) at home later this season for the first time in program history.

A Look at Kansas
The Jayhawks began their 2019 campaign with a pair of shutout victories against Nebraska and Loyola-Chicago last week. Senior forward Katie McClure paced the Jayhawks offensively, tallying four goals and two assists as she was named the United Soccer Coaches' Player of the Week.

Behind the wins, Kansas went from unranked to No. 18 in this week's United Soccer Coaches poll. Entering the season, the Jayhawks were picked to finish sixth in the Big 12 preseason poll.
