Tigers to race three times in the Memphis area this fall.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. –The University of Memphis cross country team is making history this fall when it runs in three races in the Memphis area. Tigers head coach Kevin Robinson announced the 2019 cross country schedule Monday.
Memphis makes its annual appearances in the Brooks Twilight Classic (hosted by Christian Brothers) at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex and the Rhodes College Invitational at Shelby Farms. The Brooks Twilight Classic is the season opener Aug. 31, and the Rhodes College Invitational is Sept. 21.
The Tigers run a third time in Memphis – and a second time at Shelby Farms – when they host the 2019 American Athletic Conference Championships Nov. 1. It is the first time Memphis serves as the conference race host since the Tigers joined The American in the summer of 2013.
Head coach Kevin Robinson comments
"I'm really excited to get a new year started. The opportunity to build this program is getting better and better with each passing year, and I feel good about the direction we're going.
"I'm thrilled about this season because we have three chances to compete here in Memphis, and one of those races is the conference championship. It's a great honor to host that event. Having three local races gives our families, friends and teammates the opportunity to come and support us throughout the season.
"This year's schedule is not much different from recent ones. But given the chance to race the conference championship on our home turf is going to be great."
