Women's Basketball Continues To Add To Stellar Signing Class

Julan McDonald is the eighth-best JUCO prospect per All Star Girls Report
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's basketball team continues to add to its stellar signing class with the addition of Julan McDonald, the No. 8 ranked JUCO player in the nation per All Star Girls Report (ASGR) from Odessa College Monday afternoon. McDonald is the eighth signee in the 2019 class for head coach Melissa McFerrin and the Tigers.Â

McDonald comes to Memphis after a successful two-year career at Odessa College. This season, McDonald led Odessa to the Region 5 Championship and a trip back to the NJCAA National Championship. As a First Team All-WJCAC selection, McDonald averaged 16.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.3 steals during the run to an Elite 8 finish.Â

During the 2018-19 season, McDonald averaged 9.6 points per game and shot 42.0 percent from the field. She was her team's leader with 7.2 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per contest. McDonald also was one of two players to record over a steal per game.

McDonald finished with 11 double-digit scoring and six double-digit rebounding performances this season. She scored a career-high 20 points in the March 20 win over Tyler Junior College and pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds in the win over Tohono O'odham Community College. McDonald also recorded five double-doubles as a sophomore.Â

A native of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, McDonald attended Blessed Cardinal Newman High School.Â

Julan is a dynamic athlete who gives us size and versatility on the wing. She is a talented rebounder, explosive getting to the rim and can score in the mid-range. She also brings a post-up ability that will allow us to create mismatches. We are so excited to welcome Julan to the Tiger family!
