MEMPHIS, Tenn. – An early advantage wasn't enough as Memphis men's tennis dropped a 4-3 league decision to No. 40 Tulane Sunday afternoon at the Racquet Club of Memphis.
Sunday's match marked the final contest played at the city's historic Racquet Club. Memphis (11-11, 2-3) collected momentum in doubles play, but Tulane found four wins in singles to notch the win.
In the opening point, Memphis duo Matt Story and Jeremy Taylor earned a 6-1 victory. The Green Wave (13-11, 3-2) answered with a 6-3 win on court two. With all eyes at the top spot, No. 77 tandem David Stevenson and Oscar Cutting broke serve late to record a 6-4 triumph and secure doubles.
Tulane erased the momentum with singles wins at the top two courts to gain a 2-1 lead. Memphis halted the surge when Story delivered a straight-set decision on court 3, and Stevenson used a first-set tiebreak to propel himself to a 7-6(5), 6-2 victory.
Memphis' 3-2 lead was evened when Tulane captured a straight-set decision on court 5, while the Green Wave clinched the contest in three sets on court 4.
