Memphis drops league contest at USF
Apr 12, 2019 | Men's Tennis
TAMPA, Fla. – Opening its final road trip of the regular season, Memphis men's tennis dropped a 4-2 contest at No. 44 USF Friday afternoon.
An early advantage in doubles for Memphis wasn't enough as the home side collected three singles wins at the top of the lineup and scored a victory at the bottom to take the league victory.
Memphis worked quickly in the opening point, scoring wins on courts 1 and 2 for the early edge. No. 60 duo Oscar Cutting and David Stevenson earned a ranked victory, downing No. 67 tandem Alberto Barroso-Campos and Pierre Luquet by a final of 6-2. Jan Pallares and Patrick Sydow followed with a 6-4 win to clinch the opening point.
USF began to turn the momentum in singles by taking five of six first sets. The Bulls posted a win on court 2 to even the match.
On court 5, Stevenson extended his winning streak in singles play to four matches behind a 6-4, 6-4 victory. But that would cap the scoring for the Tigers as USF took the next three decisions to set the 4-2 match final.
Memphis will return to action on Monday at No. 32 UCF. First serve is set for 5 p.m. (CT).
