Women's tennis falls to Mean Green

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis women's tennis dropped its final home match of the season, narrowly falling to North Texas on Saturday afternoon at the Racquet Club of Memphis.

Despite being on a four-game winning streak in doubles play, the Tigers found themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard entering singles play.

Down 1-0 entering singles, North Texas continued to attack, taking courts 4 and 3 to build a 3-0 lead.

The Tigers roared back, however, starting with Katherine Cao on court 5. After winning her first set 6-4, Cao convincingly took the second set with a 6-1 win, getting Memphis on the board.

Next to finish was Laura Bente on court 2. Bente won the first set via tiebreaker, edging out a 7-6 frame. Bente dropped a second-set, setting the stage for a back and forth third set. Bente would have none of it, sweeping the third set 6-0 to bring the Tigers to 2-3.

Lina Hohnhold on court 6 won a straight-set victory to knot things at 3-3, bringing the final decision to court 1. Alisha Reayer fought valiantly, but dropped a pair of tiebreaks as North Texas sealed the win.

The Tigers head to Murfreesboro, Tennessee to face Middle Tennessee next Saturday. Match time is TBD.
