Will participate in rookie mini camp this weekend.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Two-time all-conference offensive lineman Trevon Tate has signed an undrafted free agent deal and will participate in this weekend's rookie mini-camp with the Oakland Raiders.
Tate primarily played at tackle for a Memphis offensive line that blocked for four of the most prolific offenses in school history. With Tate protecting quarterbacks Paxton Lynch, Riley Ferguson and Brady White and blocking for run games that had three 1,000-yard rushers (Darrell Henderson, twice, Patrick Taylor, Jr.) as well as two 1,000-yard receivers (Anthony Miller, Damonte Coxie), Memphis accumulated 26,559 yards of total offense (6,650 yards/season) and scored 264 touchdowns.
Tate appeared in 53 games at Memphis with 49 starts after redshirting his freshman season in 2014. The 53 games played sets a school record for games played by an offensive lineman, a record he shares with four-year starting center Drew Kyser.
A member of the 2018 Outland Trophy Watch List, Tate is looking to earn a roster spot from Oakland and to be the second Memphis grad on the roster. The Raiders signed six-year vet Jordan Devey (2011-12) to the roster in March.
In his senior season, Tate helped Memphis to a second straight American Athletic Conference West Division title and a fifth consecutive bowl game. He started all 14 games at left tackle and played 966-of-1028 snaps (.940) and played over 60 snaps in nine games.
His 2018 Tigers offense set a school record for points (601), rushing yards (3,919), rushing touchdowns (48), first downs rushing (165) and total first downs (344). Memphis also set a record for most yards in a season (7,324) and tied the school record for most plays in a season (1,028). Two Tigers recorded 1,000-yard rushing seasons (Darrell Henderson, 1,909 yards; Patrick Taylor, Jr., 1,028), the first time in program history Memphis had a pair of 1,000-yard backs.
One year after Memphis' offense ranked sixth in the FBS with 335.0 passing yards per game in 2017, the o-line helped Memphis rank fifth in the FBS with 279.9 rushing yards per game in 2018. In 2018, the Tigers' offensive line was a semifinalist for the Joe Moore Award, the lone non P5 school to make the list of 10 semifinalists.
Tate graduated from the University of Memphis in December of 2018 with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. He was then one of three Tigers to participate in the NFL Combine.
The Raiders' rookie minicamp will take place this weekend. Clubs have the option of hosting camp either Friday through Sunday or Saturday through Monday.
