Women's tennis opens American Championships with Temple

ORLANDO, Fla. – Kicking off The American Championships, Memphis women's tennis will face Temple on Wednesday morning at USTA National Campus in Orlando.
The Tigers (12-9, 3-1), who drew the No. 8 seed, will face the 9th-seeded Owls (13-6, 0-3) for the first time in program history. First serve is slated for 8 a.m. (CT).
In their last outing, Memphis gutted out a 4-3 win against in-state foe Middle Tennessee to cap the regular season. The Tigers began the match with a doubles victory, clinched by juniors Josephine Cao and Claire Sullivan.
Two wins at the top of the lineup in singles then helped seal the win. Sophomores Lina Hohnhold and Laura Bente pushed their individual win streaks to five games, and sophomore Alisha Reayer clinched the contest at the top spot.
Temple enters the conference championships on a three-match win streak but has dropped their three conference matches this season against UConn, ECU and Tulsa.
