Jackson fires a 2-under-par 70, Chevalier shoots 1-under 71 to lead Tigers
WEST POINT, Miss. – Isaiah Jackson fired a 2-under 70 and Guillaume Chevalier added a 1-under 71 to lead the University of Memphis to an eighth-place finish Tuesday in the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship.
As a team, the Tigers shot 289 for a three-round total of 867, which was 3-over-par. ULM, the leader after each of the first two rounds, maintained its advantage Tuesday to win the title by one stroke over Ole Miss and three strokes over Vanderbilt, the nation's fourth-ranked program. Middle Tennessee State's Marcus Byrd was the medalist, finishing with a 67 for a total of 13-under 203.
Bradley Bawden finished the event with the best score by a UofM golfer. He shot even-par 72 Tuesday for a total of 1-under 215. Bawden also was the team's top golfer at last week's Mason Rudolph Championship, where he finished eighth at 6-under 207.
Finishing two strokes back of Bawden was Chase Harris, who shot 76 for 217. Jackson finished at 219, Chevalier at 221 and Nick Giles at 229. Jackson nearly closed with a bogey-free final round, but had a setback at No. 17 at Old Waverly Golf Club.
Memphis closed its spring season at Tuesday's event and will prepare for next week's American Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championship at Palm Harbor, Fla. The AAC Championship will be held April 21-23 at Innisbrook Resort.
