BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Memphis women's tennis turned in its third consecutive win behind a 5-2 performance Saturday afternoon at Samford.

For the second time this weekend, the Tigers (8-6) used doubles to establish momentum. Three straight-set wins in singles then sealed the win.

"Doubles continues to improve, and that is helping us," Head Coach Hayden Perez said. "We anticipated a very competitive match with Samford and it was. This team is really growing right now and finding ways to compete even when they aren't playing their best. That is the sign of a good team and good competitors. We're very proud of this group."

Juniors Josephine Cao and Claire Sullivan earned a 6-2 win on court 3 before sophomore tandem Laura Bente and Alisha Reayer clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory.

In singles, Bente made quick work on court 2, while a straight-set win at the top spot by Reayer pushed the Tiger advantage to 3-0.

Sophomore Lina Hohnhold delivered the match-clinching win on court 6. Playing out the contest, Samford collected two points before freshman Aleks Topalovic recorded a three-set victory to set the final score.

The Tigers will prep for their sixth road trip of the season in two weeks with matches against Brown and Harvard in Boston, Mass., on Mar. 22 and 24.
