PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A strong rally fell short Friday evening, as Memphis women's tennis dropped a 4-3 decision at Brown to open the weekend.

After dropping the opening doubles point, Memphis (8-7) sought a comeback bid in singles play, taking the match the distance.

Brown (8-6) claimed the doubles point with wins at courts 2 and 3. Duo Alisha Reayer and Laura Bente held a 5-4 lead before the top spot was left unfinished.

In singles, Bente was first off the court with a 6-1, 6-1 decision to draw the overall match even.

Brown claimed a 3-1 advantage after wins on courts 3 and 4 when Memphis offered one final rally. Katherine Cao tallied a straight-set win on court 5 before Alisha Reayer erased a set deficit to post a thrilling three-set victory at the top spot to draw the match even once more at 3-3.

Despite forcing a tiebreak in the second set on court 6, the Tigers' rally stopped shy as Brown clinching the match in the tiebreak.

Memphis seeks to rebound Sunday at Harvard. First serve is set for 10 a.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN3.
