Women's tennis drops contest at Harvard
Mar 24, 2019 | Women's Tennis
BOSTON, Mass. – An early advantage wasn't enough as Memphis women's tennis dropped a 4-1 decision at Harvard Sunday afternoon to close the weekend.
The Tigers posted a win in doubles to take a 1-0 match lead, but the Crimson responded with four wins in singles action.
Harvard gained an edge in doubles after taking the top spot, but juniors Claire Sullivan and Josephine Cao evened the point with a 6-2 win on court 2. Katherine Cao and Hannah Davies forced a tiebreak on court 3, and after an early 3-0 lead, recorded a 7-3 tiebreak win to clinch doubles.
Memphis couldn't carry the momentum into singles play, however, as Harvard tallied straight-set wins in the middle of the lineup to complete the comeback.
The Tigers will return to Memphis for a four-match home stand, including a trio of matches this weekend. Memphis will host Cincinnati, South Alabama and Marshall on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Friday's first serve against the Bearcats is set for noon at the Racquet Club of Memphis.
