BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Facing a short-handed UAB squad, the Memphis women's tennis team used the advantage to score a 4-0 win against the Blazers Friday afternoon at George Ward Park.

Memphis (7-6) swept the opening doubles point for an early lead. After two forfeit wins in singles extended the lead, sophomore Alisha Reayer clinched her second-consecutive match for the Tigers.

"Today's doubles was awesome. The kids played well and that was the highlight of the day," Head Coach Hayden Perez said. "In singles, I have to give UAB a lot of credit; they are playing with only four players and fought tremendously hard. They challenged us in every match. We will enjoy this briefly and get ready for another tough day tomorrow."

With a forfeit win on court 3 in doubles, the duo of Laura Bente and Reayer took the top spot, 6-1, to clinch the opening point. Playing out, Katherine Cao and Hannah Davies secured the doubles sweep with a 6-2 win on court 2.

As the bottom two courts in singles penned as a forfeit, the Tigers held a 3-0 match lead.

UAB (4-9) sought to swing momentum after taking three of the four opening sets in singles play, but Memphis silenced the rally when Reayer outlasted UAB's Marlene Herrmann in a first-set tiebreak. The sophomore then cruised in the second set to clinch her second-straight match for Memphis.

The Tigers remain on the road for a contest at Samford on Saturday. First serve from Pat M. Courington Tennis Pavilion is slated for 12 p.m.
