Women's tennis travels to Birmingham for weekend slate

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – In its fifth road weekend of the season, Memphis women's tennis travels to Birmingham, Ala., for a pair of contests against UAB and Samford.
The Tigers will face UAB (4-8) for a Friday match slated for 12 p.m., before closing the weekend at Samford (8-4) on Sunday at 12 p.m.
Memphis (6-6) notched a 4-3 win at William & Mary in its last outing Sunday. Despite dropping the doubles point, the Tigers used wins by Lina Hohnhold, Laura Bente, Katherine Cao and Alisha Reayer to clinch the road win.
UAB snapped a three-match slide with a 5-2 victory against Alabama A&M last Saturday. Marlene Herrmann has played 11 of the Blazer's 12 matches at the No. 1 position. She holds a 5-7 overall mark with a 4-7 record at the top spot.
Samford is currently on a four-match winning streak. The Bulldogs beat Troy last Thursday before claiming a 4-3 win against Alabama State on Saturday. Grace Jennings anchors the top spot in singles play wth an 8-4 record. Jennings also has an individual four-match win streak.
UAB holds a 21-20 advantage in the all-time series, but the Tigers have won the last seven meetings. Memphis leads the all-time series against Samford with a 6-2 ledger. Sunday's matchup will be the first between the Bulldogs and Tigers since 2010.
