Track And Field Wins Nine Events Saturday

Gordon, Southern with three top-three performances to lead Tigers.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis freshmen Tanalya Gordon and Aisha Southern each posted three top-three performances Saturday to lead the Tigers in second-day action at the Rhodes Invitational. The meet was Memphis' outdoor season opener.

Gordon, in her first collegiate outdoor meet, was the Tigers' lone double-winner on the day, placing first in the women's long jump and also running a leg on the first-place 4x400-meter relay. Gordon also ran a leg on the 4x100-meter relay that finished second.

Southern placed second in the women's 100 meters and third in the women's 100-meter hurdles. She joined Gordon on the second-place 4x100-meter relay.

On the men's side, Imri Persiado and Hunter Miniard each recorded two top-three finishes. Persiado won the 100 meters and was second in the 200 meters. Miniard posted both of his top-three performances in the hurdles, coming in third in the 110 meter and second in the 400 meter.

Tigers Tidbits
- Memphis posted nine first-place finishes and had 21 top-three performances Saturday. In the two-day meet, the Tigers won nine events and had 27 six top-three performances.
- Three other Tigers on the women's side posted two top-three finishes Saturday. Paris Perkins (4x100m relay/4x400m relay), Samantha Lenton (discus/shot put) and DeeNia McMiller (discus/shot put) placed in the top-three in their respective events.
- Four Tigers posted personal-bests Saturday. Those performers were: Imri Persiado in the men's 100 meters, Hannah Pettigrew in the women's 800 meters, DeeNia McMiller in the women's discus and Samantha Lenton in the women's shot put.
- Saida Burns-Moore ran in her first event in her three-year Tigers career Saturday. Burns-Moore, who competes primarily in the women's high and triple jumps, ran in the women's 400 meters.
