Tigers earn third-place finish at first event of the spring season

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – University of Memphis senior Bradley Bawden fired a 2-under 70 in Tuesday's final round of the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate to become the first sole medalist for the Tigers in three seasons.

Bawden finished at 4-under 212 for a one-stroke victory over Brandon Einstein. Bawden was two strokes better than Brendan MacDougall. Einstein and MacDougall are from High Point University.

Bawden shot 1-over 37 on the front side Tuesday, but closed with a bogey-free back nine that included birdies at 10, 11 and 17.

Behind Bawden's effort, the Tigers posted a third-place finish in the 19-team field. Memphis, in its first spring event, shot 17-over 881. Charleston Southern won the Wexford Intercollegiate with a 12-over 876. Furman, at 16-over 880, was second.

Bawden, from Hockley, England, became the first Tiger since Thomas Perrot at the 2016 Colleton River Collegiate to be a sole medalist. Isaiah Jackson, a junior from Golden, Miss., tied for medalist honors at November's East Bay Deli Classic at Kiawah Island, S.C.

Jackson shot 2-over 218 to finish in a tie for eighth. He had a final-round, even-par 72 to join Bawden in the top 10. Other Tigers participating were Chase Harris, who shot 73 for 227 and finished 40th; Borja Martin, who had a 74 for 228 and Rodi Vlasveld, who closed with a 78 for 231.
