Volleyball Downs USF 3-1 Sunday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis' Meredith Wallace and Sabrina Bianco both had double-double performances to lead the Tigers to a 3-1 American Athletic Conference volleyball win at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse Sunday.
Memphis won the match by scores of 25-15, 15-25, 25-16 and 25-16. With the victory, the Tigers are now 15-9 overall and 4-8 in the league. USF fell 7-19 overall and 1-11 in the conference.
Bianco and Wallace both posted consecutive double-doubles in the weekend's two matches. On Sunday, Bianco had 42 assists and 13 digs, and Wallace recorded 13 kills and 13 digs. .

The Tigers take their final road trip of their American Athletic Conference regular-season schedule next weekend. Memphis travels to Tulsa Nov. 8 and Wichita State Nov. 10.

- Sabrina Bianco had 42 assists Sunday for her 15th40-assists match of her career. Fourteen of the 15 performances have come this season.
- Sabrina Bianco recorded her 10thdouble-double (42 assists-13 digs) of the season and the 16thof her career.
- Sabrina Bianco now has 963 assists on the season and needs only 37 to reach 1,000. When she reaches the milestone, it will give Memphis back-to-back seasons with 1,000-assists setters. In 2018, Molly Murrihy had 1,020 assists.
- Hannah Flowers is closing in on 1,000 kills for a career. After the two matches this weekend, the junior right side hitter has 940 career kills.
- Gigi Crescenzo collected 10 digs versus USF Sunday. The double-figures digs match was her 11thof the season.
- Sunday's match (18 digs) was the 36thdouble-figures digs match of Gehler's career and her 18thof the season. Gehler has posted double-digit digs in 16 of the Tigers' last 17 matches.

First Set
- Memphis fell behind 1-0, but then raced out to an 11-4 lead on its way to the set win.
- Eight of the Tigers' first 11 points came off USF errors.
- The Bulls answered and cut the Memphis lead to five at 14-9.
- The Tigers, though, put together a 9-3 run to push the lead to double-digits at 23-12.
- Hannah Flowers had three kills in the spurt.
- Back-to-back kills from Anna Palmer and Jada Birkel scored the Tigers' final two points of the set.
Second Set
- The USF Bulls turned the tables in the second set, grabbing an early 2-0 lead and never trailing.
- Memphis fell behind 6-3, but three-straight points from Flowers – one kill, two aces – tied the set at 6-all.
- USF used a 5-1 run to push out to an 11-7 lead.
- The Bulls extended their lead to 19-10 and put the set out of reach.
- USF won the set 25-15.
Third Set
- The set was back-and-forth early with four ties, the last coming at 7-all.
- The Tigers put together a 6-0 run to take a 13-7 lead and did not trail the rest of the way.
- Birkel started the spurt with a kill, and Meredith Wallace followed with two kills. Gigi Crescenzo added an ace.
- Memphis continued to extend its lead to eight at 19-11 on three kills from Wallace.
- Flowers (two kills) and Birkel (kill) closed out the 25-16 set win for the Tigers.
Fourth Set
- The set was tight in the first 20 points, with Memphis holding an 11-9 lead.
- There were three ties in the set's first 20 points.
- Four different Tigers downed a kill to help Memphis keep pace with USF.
- Memphis then used a 6-2 run to grab a 17-11 advantage.
- Flowers led the charge with two kills in the spurt.
- USF pulled to within four at 17-13, but did not get any closer.
- The Tigers closed the set on an 8-3 run for the 25-16 win.
