Rifle Wins Gamecock Invitational

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – A week after shooting its season-best aggregate at TCU, the University of Memphis rifle team did one better at Jacksonville State's Gamecock Invitational Sunday. Well, try 10 points better.

The Tigers shot a season-best 4679 aggregate (2330 smallbore/2349 air rifle) – which was 10 points better than last week's 4669 – to win the Gamecock Invitational for a second-straight season. In winning the Gamecock Invitational crown, Memphis defeated four nationally ranked teams in No. 5 Ole Miss, No. 12 Murray State, No. 13 Jacksonville State and No. 21 UAB.

Freshman Taylor Gibson led the way, shooting an invitational-best 1177 aggregate. She won the smallbore discipline with a 586 and was second in air rifle at 591. Senior Levi Clark placed second in aggregate (1176) and smallbore (585) and third in air rifle (591).

For the third-straight match, four Tigers posted aggregates of 1160 or higher. Gibson (1177), Clark (1176), Arielle Kimm (1165) and David Crenshaw (1160) all shot 1160 or better.

Memphis returned to the place where it set school records for aggregate (4689) and smallbore (2332) a year ago. This time, the Tigers were just 10 points off their school-record aggregate (4679) and two points shy of their school-record smallbore (2332).
Taylor Gibson shot a career-high 1177 aggregate at the Gamecock Invitational. She posted a career-high 586 smallbore score and a 591 in air rifle, her second-highest mark of the season in that discipline.
For Gibson, it was the fourth time this season she recorded an aggregate of 1165 or higher.
Levi Clark posted a season-high 1176 aggregate. It was his fourth match of the season with a 1170 aggregate or better.
Arielle Kimm shot her third-consecutive match of a 1160 or higher aggregate with her 1165 in the Gamecock Invitational. She posted a season-high 580 smallbore score.
David Crenshaw shot a 1160 aggregate for his fifth match of the season with an aggregate of 1160 or higher.
