Tigers, Oregon meet in Phil Knight Invitational

Ducks, UofM are nationally ranked and unbeaten after two games each
PORTLAND, Ore. – Two of the nation's Top 25 teams – No. 13 Memphis and No. 14 Oregon – will step into a brighter national spotlight Tuesday night at the Moda Center.
The UofM, powered by the nation's No. 1 recruiting class, will face an Oregon, a team led by Dana Altman, the winningest coach in program history; point guard Payton Pritchard, second on the school's career assists chart and Chris Duarte, the national junior college player of the year last season.
ESPN will carry the early season showdown beginning at 8 p.m. (CT).
Memphis (2-0) is unbeaten after opening the season with victories over South Carolina State (by 33 points) and UIC (by 46 points). Like the Tigers, Oregon (2-0) has posted a pair of lopsided wins at home. The Ducks beat Fresno State by 14 and Boise State by 31.
Four members of the Tigers' 2019 class – James Wiseman, Boogie Ellis, Precious Achiuwa and D.J. Jeffries – are leading the team in scoring. Wiseman, a 7-foot-1 All-American center, tops the foursome at 22.5 points per game, while Ellis is averaging 15 points and Achiuwa 12. Wiseman also is averaging double-figure rebounds (10.0).
If anything, the Oregon program has been the epitome of consistency. Altman has had nine straight winning seasons with the Ducks and 22 consecutive overall. Pritchard, a 6-foot-2 senior, has started 111 straight games.
The toughest test of the young season for a young Memphis team awaits. In addition to Pritchard, the Ducks boast senior Anthony Mathis, a graduate transfer from New Mexico who holds that program's record for 3-pointers made in a season; and 6-foot-7 senior forward Shakur Juiston, who averaged a double-double last season.
"We'll definitely have a great game plan and try to prepare this young team as much as we can," said Tigers coach Penny Hardaway. "All we're going to do is to try and keep our principles in front of us offensively and defensively. We'll have to stay focused."
Memphis is coming off a 92-46 win over UIC in which Ellis made six 3-pointers in the opening half en route to a 22-point scoring night.
Wiseman earned multiple honors following his first two games in which he scored 45 points and grabbed 20 rebounds. The American Athletic Conference dubbed him the league's Freshman of the Week and Wiseman also was recognized as the Lute Olson National Player of the Week.
