Volleyball Falls To Tulsa Sunday

Contest was the Tigers' Breast Cancer Awareness Match.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis' Kaitlyn Gehler collected a team-high 15 digs and Meredith Wallace added nine kills, but it wasn't enough as the Tigers fell to Tulsa 3-0 in American Athletic Conference action at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse Sunday afternoon.

The Golden Hurricane won the match by scores of 25-14, 25-23 and 25-18. The loss dropped Memphis to 11-5 overall and 0-4 in The American. Tulsa improved to 10-7 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

The Tigers go back on the road in American Athletic Conference play next weekend. Memphis travels to Dallas, Texas, for a 7 p.m. (CT) match Friday at SMU. On Sunday, the Tigers face defending league champion UCF in Orlando, Fla., at 11 a.m. (CT).

First Set
- Tulsa jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never trailed. The set also was never tied.
- The Tigers closed to within two at 5-3 on a Hannah Flowers kill, but got no closer the rest of the way.
- The Golden Hurricane built their lead to as many as 12 points (23-11; 24-12), before taking the set 25-14.
Second Set
- The set was the most competitive of the three with nine ties and five lead changes.
- Memphis took an early 2-0 advantage off Sabrina Bianco's service game.
- Tulsa used a 6-3 run for a 6-5 lead.
- The score was tied four times over the next seven points, the last one coming at 9-all.
- The Tigers put together an 8-5 spurt to push out to a 17-14 lead.
- Sabria Cooper started the run with consecutive aces, and Meredith Wallace, Bianco and Flowers each added one kill.
- The Golden Hurricane fought back and tied the set at 20-all.
- Memphis regained two-point advantages at 22-20 (Wallace kill) and 23-21 (Tulsa attack error).
- Tulsa had the set's last run, a 4-0 spurt, for the 25-23 win.
Third Set
- The set was tied five times in the first 24 points.
- The largest run in the early-going was by the Tigers, a 3-0 spurt off Kaitlyn Gehler's serve. Her service game led to an ace and a kill apiece from Cooper and Flowers.
- After the last tie, Tulsa went on a 5-1 run to take a 17-13 lead and gain control of the set.
- Memphis was unable to draw much closer, and the Golden Hurricane won the set 25-18 and match 3-0.
