DALLAS, Texas – University of Memphis' Andrea O'Connor downed a career-high 13 kills, but SMU fought back the Tigers in taking a 3-1 victory in American Athletic Conference action Friday night.

The Mustangs won the match by scores of 25-23, 21-25, 25-15 and 25-21. The loss dropped Memphis to 11-6 overall and 0-5 in The American. SMU improved to 10-5 overall and 3-2 in the conference.

O'Connor's previous-high for kills was nine against South Dakota State earlier this season. The transfer from High Point University also had five blocks, which were one shy of tying her career-high.

The Tigers remain on the road Sunday, Oct. 13 and travel to Orlando, Fla., to face defending conference champion UCF. Match time is 11 a.m. (CT) Sunday.

First Set

Memphis grabbed the early lead at 7-4. Hannah Flowers and Sabria Cooper each had two kills in the set-opening spurt.
SMU fought back to tie the set at 8-all.
The set was tied five times over the next 12 points, the last at 14-all.
The Mustangs then moved in front by two at 16-14 and never trailed again.
Memphis got the equalizer twice at 19-all and 21-all, but never regained the advantage.
SMU took the first set 25-23.

Second Set

The Mustangs jumped out to an 8-3 lead and looked like they would take a 2-0 match lead.
SMU maintained its five-point lead at 10-5 when the Tigers got back in the set.
Memphis used a 5-1 run to cut the SMU lead to 11-10. The Tigers scored three of their five points off Sabrina Bianco's service game.
The Mustangs regained their momentum and pushed out to an 18-13 advantage.
SMU still led 20-17, but the Tigers had the final run.
Memphis closed the set on an 8-1 run for the 25-21 win.
Flowers was on fire in the run with four kills, including ones that tied the set (21-all), gave Memphis the lead (22-21) and clinched the set (25-21).

Third Set

Memphis took the early lead at 4-2 on two O'Connor kills and one Flowers kill.
SMU roared back with a 14-4 run to take a 16-8 advantage.
The Mustangs never trailed in the set again and went on to the 25-15 win.

Fourth Set

The set was tied at 7-all after the first 14 points.
The remainder of the set was back-and-forth.
SMU took the first advantage at 10-7, but the Tigers bounced back to tie the set at 14-all.
The Mustangs pushed out to an 19-15 lead, but Memphis closed to within one at 21-20.
Memphis, though, was unable to regain a lead and SMU took the set 25-21 and the match 3-1.
